Library & Literacy Enrichment

At St. Mary’s School, our library is a place where students grow as readers, learners, and people of faith. Through engaging stories and meaningful activities, students discover the joy of reading while also exploring lessons about kindness, courage, and compassion rooted in our Catholic values.

In the younger grades, students enjoy read-alouds and interactive activities that connect literacy with other subjects like science, history, and art. These cross-curricular lessons help students see how reading opens the door to understanding the world around them.

Our library also supports independent reading through the Accelerated Reader (AR) program. Students set reading goals, take comprehension quizzes, and celebrate their progress as they grow in confidence and develop a lifelong love of books.

As students move into the upper grades, library classes focus on building important academic and life skills. Students learn how to conduct research, find reliable sources, cite information properly, and practice digital citizenship, using technology safely and responsibly.

Through our library program, students develop:

  • A love of reading and learning
  • Strong comprehension and independent reading habits through AR
  • Research and information literacy skills
  • Responsible digital citizenship
  • An appreciation for literature that reflects faith, values, and character

At St. Mary’s, the library helps students grow not only as readers, but as thoughtful learners guided by faith and curiosity.
